Cons


While it can be done by one person, it’s best to have another person to help you put this machine together.

It’s going to take you a couple of hours to finish building.

Cons


The weight bearing horns are more textured than I expected. It takes a little work to slide plates on and off.

While you can replace plates on the lower horns in the middle lock position, you have to angle your weights slightly to do so.

Pros


Evenly distributes plates across three separate weight posts.

Being light weight in comparison to other leg press options, this machine is easier to drag around the house.

Despite being the ‘budget option’, this device still contains all the tools you need to build up your quads and core stabilizers.

Cons


The weight rack feels a little wobbly at maximum extension.

I don’t feel very comfortable with the lack of a separate locking mechanism beyond the safety stop.

The extra large 3 x 3 inch frame construction inspires confidence in its solidity.

The shoulder and back pads are comfortable to use and easily wiped down.

800 lbs of weight should be sufficient for most people looking to get fit.

Cons


The assembly instructions are terrible at best.

While the calf raise block is nice to have, the rounded design doesn’t give the best grip.

While not a leg press, I figured it’d be nice to give a solid option for those who are looking for primarily training their quads and hamstrings. 

A relatively light machine, this fairly priced tool comes with sweat resistant, and comfortable pads. With a respectable 250 lb weight capacity, you won’t have any problems in working up a sweat.

Pros


Extending and curling on this machine is super smooth.

Includes an excellent lifetime warranty.

This device is easily adjustable for multiple body types.

The pads are comfortable and easy to clean.

Cons


There’s is a little too much “give” before you start feeling the tension.

Putting this machine together took longer than expected.

Being made of metal and not plastic, the linear bearings won’t flatten or wear out in this machine’s lifetime.

The range of motion and the movements to get there are both excellent and smooth.

Cons


The cost of this machine can be prohibitive.

The shoulder pads felt a little wide for my size.

This design helps to avoid compression pain in the spine, knees, and shoulders.

Cons


The steel bars use a clear coating that may peel off after extended use.

If this does happen, you’ll have to regularly clean the bars to make sure rust doesn’t gum up the rollers.


Final Thoughts

Of all these options, I’d have to say the Body-Solid GLPH1100 met my needs best. Being able to practice hack squats on top of leg presses adds a good level of versatility to my workout at a relatively affordable price.

On top of this, the sturdy construction means I won’t have to shell out for another leg press for several years at the very least.
